I wanted to write to you all and invite you to the Parent Staff Association AGM. This will be held on Tuesday 18th October at 7pm in St John's Church on Grove Lane. Wine, refreshments and nibbles will be served.
As a parent of the school you automatically become part of this friendly and beneficial partnership with the school. The aim of the PSA is to raise money by organising events throughout the year; this money is spent carefully and sensibly to benefit every child. The school is currently looking at purchasing sails and awnings for the playground to keep our children out of the sunshine when it's baking hot. Sadly none of this comes for free.
As I have previously written both myself, the secretary Tamsin and the treasurer Laura are looking to step down, our children are now all in years 3 and 4 and this will allow new parents to take on these roles. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can give some of their time to help organise events and come up with exciting fundraising ideas in partnership with the school. You can give as much time as you like as every little helps, it's also a great way to meet new friends and do something good for your child's school.
As a church school St John’s is not well funded, and the PSA plays a vital role in ensuring our children are able to access the resources they need. This includes Chromebooks, paying for coaches for trips, textbooks, playground equipment and even furniture for the classrooms. The pandemic sadly meant that some of our regular social events were suspended and we had to find other ways to raise money. We have produced tea towels and tote bags, sold Christmas trees and managed to squeeze in a disco and quiz between lockdowns, raising £15800 over the last two years.
But we really missed getting to know new families joining the school and welcoming them to the special St John’s community, as well as spending time with old friends. Now everything is back up and running, we want to make sure we can run as many events as possible.
We’ve had a great time in our roles, meeting other parents, helping to organise some brilliant fundraisers and gaining satisfaction from knowing our efforts have directly benefited the school and our children. But it’s time for other parents to take the reins and have the chance to be more involved. We’ll be on hand to give lots of help and advice, making sure you feel fully supported.
Any questions before then? Just email tostjohnspsa@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Best wishes
Emma Lloyd-Williams
